FC Siemens Schweiz vs FC VBZ 3-5

Yesterday evening was the last match of the season. We were playing against Siemens in Juchhof 2.

Even though the game started at 19:30, it was very hot and sunny. Tobi won the toss-up and decided to choose which direction to attack – we had the sun behind us, so the opposite goalkeeper had troubles due to not seeing too much. Good start ahead!

The match started well, we took the lead quite quickly, Lewis scored after running through the defense next to the close post. We were playing well, staying compact while being able to attack quite regularly. But then suddenly we were hit by a counter attack and they equalized the score. No problem, after a while we again scored, this time it was Marco who found the net. But then they scored again, making it 2-2 at half time.

As I was substituted, I could do live coverage of the second half in our team chat and also make a few videos.

Sometimes passing was like FC Barcelona – almost…

The second half was similar to the first one, we had more chances, we were constantly pushing while our defense became much more reliable as before (as I said, I was substituted…). Soon, Yemi scored from a close range, so it was 3-2 to us. But then came another equalizer, the 3rd of the game, making it 3-3 20 minutes before the final whistle.

Two of the cca. 10 corners we had during the match

Our team was not very happy with the referee throughout the match. Many decisions were quite weird, throw-in instead of corner, clear tackles that resulted in free kicks from close range. After yet another controversial decision, Tobi raised his voice that resulted in a yellow card. While being substituted, he continued speaking and got the second yellow card immediately. So 3-3, quarter of an hour left, one man down…

Somehow Siemens became more nervous and unorganized after the red card, and we took advantage on this. We continued pushing more and more, attack after attack without any serious risks on our goal. And the effort was worth, just a few minutes after the dismissal of Tobi, Kiru scored, and soon after, Yemi scored his second goal, making the score 5-3.

Pushing very hard, shooting again and again

The last minutes of the match were quite calm, Siemens gave up, their substitute players left before the final whistle. We continued setting up chances while staying stabile at the back.

It was a very good result at the end, a high-scoring game when we were not behind for a single minute. The bad thing is that we still finished last in the season, but we won 5 games and “only” lost 11 this year.

We wish all our players and supporters a good summer break (still having trainings on Wednesdays), and the new season will start soon, already in August.
